Maddie's first model.

Post by Stuart »

My Daughter Maddie is on Easter Holidays at the moment and being a bit bored, she asked to build one of the model tall ships I have in the stash - Airfix's old 1/72 Golden Hind. It's a bit of an ambitious first model but she's very craft orientated and after showing her the basics I let her get on with it (I did help with the hull).

She spent the evening in the conservatory with us whilst I worked on a few builds and my wife worked on her latest university assignment - I think she's done REALLY well for a first session. :shoutout:

There a few minor gaps here and there but I'll show her how to fill them with plastic card and filler. It's actually gone together really well for such an old kit.

I should say that my daughter is absolutely mad on tall ships, pirates and the 'Golden age of sail'. As well as being an accomplished dingy sailor (she's been lined up as a trainee instructor by her club), she wants to go to Uni to study History. Her ambition is to be a curator of one of the tall ships we have over here - something like the HMS Victory.

Cheers!

Go get ‘em, Maddie! This is looking great, too!
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

That is awesome Stuart! Golden Hind... :hmm: Sir Francis Drake?

She says yes - it was Sir Francis Drake's flagship.

Oh wow, nice  The Golden Hind!
The Victory  Now that's a tall ship. Have they reinstalled the masts? The last picture of her I saw the masts were removed for repair. Of course I don't make it a habit to keep up with the ole gals maintenance. She's on my bucket list for sure. Maybe by the time I actually make it across the pond, your daughter will be in there in her dream job
Isn't a replica of the Hind in Brixham?
Building a kit from your stash is like cutting the head off a Hydra, two more take it’s place.

Oh, BTW, I have a couple Airfix Mayflowers once she finishes the Hind.
