Debonder...

Post by BlackSheep214 »

I bought a bottle of debonder at Hobby Lobby over the weekend. I know it’s used for debonding CA glue, but will it work with ordinary hobby glue? (tube and liquid glue) The ‘57 Nomad kit has rear wheel well/rear interior panel and rear deck glued on the chassis I want to remove and fix it for a better fit.

Tom,

I would strongly recommend against using CA Debonder for anything except a CA join. CA joins are not melted or fused together the way liquids such as Tamiya’s or Mr Cement are. A CA join will pop apart whereas a fused join will not. If you used Tamiya cement, then you should use a razor saw—preferably the thinnest blade possible and a sharp X-Acto to cut the pieces apart.

:that:

A panel line scriber (repeatedly drawn along the joint) could also be used, but it depends on the joint.

Try putting the parts in the freezer for 30 minutes. Sometimes they will pop the join

Or, a hammer. Hammers work. :bag:

A sharp fine scriber will work, too. By the way, debonder will take paint off in a hurry...I know.
