USMC joins the Royal Navy

Post by Stikpusher »

A detachment of 10 USMC F-35s is going aboard the carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth for a NATO exercise. Very interesting....

That's really cool. I think it's time to mess with the Brits......again.

That's pretty cool, I was actually in Portsmouth last weekend and both carriers were port - Queen Liz sailed on the Monday I think.

I had a great view from the Hotel window - we even saw some early morning Merlin movements.

Nice photos Stuart! :shoutout: I love the contrast of the Merlin flying past the 19th century ship mast on the last photo.

I would love to be sitting in the mess when the Marines are introduced to RN chow... :giggles:

Ah but I bet they LOVE the RN Rum (and assorted other drinks) :lashed:

That ship's actually the HMS Victory, launched in 1765 and still a commissioned warship; flagship of the Royal Navy. Alas she's lost most of her masts and rigging for restoration and it'll be at least ten years before she gets them back.

I agree though, the contrast of old and new is really interesting. My daughter actually did a mirrored painting of the two ships for her end of school art project.

She went to visit it on her Birthday last Sunday - hence why we were down there.
