The pilot did not survive the crash in the North Sea. 86-0176 was the airplane, in the foreground in this photo. Sad Days.

Indeed, it is a dangerous profession even in peacetime!
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Lest face it, those airframes are getting old. That airframe was built in Fiscal Year 1986. We are coming up on Fiscal Year 2021 in October. 30+ years as a front line fighter is a recipe for stuff like this to happen. It’s very sad any way that you look at this.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing Stik. They're eventually scheduled to get the F-35 I think.
