Interior pics posted on some FB page. Wow! Just wow! Completely gutted. Good news is that all 59 casualties have been released from the hospital according to the Navy Times.

Call me a pessimist, but that ship is done. Many parts of the main structure got heated above recrystallization temperature of the material so that is all to be replaced. If they want to rescue it, it'll be near the cost of a new one.

Very true. Best case is putting everything new into the old hull. Just so the powers can be can say that she was not a “total loss”. But like USS Miami a few years back, it’s probably more cost effective to scrap her and procure a replacement.

This is not going to buff out. Since she's an older "Wasp" class, they may scrap her. Replace it with a newer "America" class.

That will only cost a cool billion or so, not to mention how many years, as our shipbuilding capability has atrophied. Bonhomme Richard was just completing the yard upgrade to make her capable of operating F-35s. I can see a lot of careers being scrapped, and perhaps some jail time for some folks behind this. As it should be.

The conspiracy theorist are going nuts over this. They're saying that a bomb was dropped on her island. :headslap:

Morons... the island was intact when the fire started... but was fully engulfed the first night... its made of aluminum apparently, so that explains the collapse and holing. Do these numbskulls think that a bomb was dropped on it to start the fire?
