Airfix 1/48 H.S. Hawk T.1

Post by Stuart »

Hi Guys,

I've not built anything for a while, and whilst I really don't really have any bench time, I'm feeling the call of some plastic! To that end I quite fancy building a H.S. Hawk T.1 in early RAF training colours.

So this is the kit I have on order.

Image

I've also ordered some decals and a simple PE set for it from Airwaves.

This is the scheme I'm going for - Central Flying School T.1s, RAF Valley, Circa... Well sometime in the 1970s/80s

Image

Or maybe this slightly later one :hmm:

Image

Work will commence (hopefully) when it arrives.

Cheers, and thanks for looking in!

:hmm: (now where the hell did I pack away my paints and glues n stuff?)

I am looking forward to seeing this build Stuart. I saw the Red Arrows last year when they flew at a local air show where I used to live. They put on a fine demonstration!

Ooh, have been looking at this kit myself, as it has a decal set for a Hawk in the Finnish airforce !

Hawk is a nice looking trainer, it really is!

Thanks Carlos! Yes indeed, the Reds are pretty good at what they do - I've seen them numerous times over the years.

Yes indeed, the Mk.51 is a great looking jet.

I can't rightly say as I've not see the kit yet, but you might want to take a look at the Hobbyboss 1/48 T.1 kit Kari, as I suspect this old Airfix moulding is going to be pretty basic. I probably would have gone with the HB kit if I was buying, but I actually got this one as a swap for another kit.

If you want my Finnish decals you're more than welcome. I'll check them when I get the kit - if they're in good shape I'll let you know.

Cheers!

Well I got the kit today and I have to say I'm reasonably impressed, it looks like it's going to be a good kit. It has a couple of options for the pylons and a choice of raised or lowered flaps.

Here's the kit box again...

Image

And here are some of the bits I've picked up to go with it. There is some detail in the cockpit but it's very basic so I thought the airwaves set would help.

Image

Plenty of options for schemes, although I'm probably going to go with either of the top left training schemes

Image

This is a nice sized model in 1/48th, and although simple the detail seems nice.

Image

I was expecting raised panels, but actually they're nicely recessed.

Image

I'm really looking forward to this build now!

Cheers!
