Monogram 1/48 Hawker Typhoon mk.Ib

Post by Stuart »

Hey look Dudes I actually finished something!!!

So this is my 1/48 Monogram Hawker Typhoon, painted with various acylics but mainly Revell Aqua. I have to say it’s nice to get it off the bench and it looks good on the shelf it really is a big beast and It’s always great to finish a 1/48 build.

That being said however I’m not very happy with it – I kind of rushed it at the end just to get it done. It went ok up to the decals which are awful. I also had a lot of issues with the clear coat which went on like treacle even though I’d thinned it to death. Mind you that did lead me to go out and try some other brands which I’ve done – the matt coat was Vallejo (and a bit of AK interactive tested on one of the wings). I did think I’d done a decent job of building and painting this one mind you – so I guess that’s good.

The less said about the ‘weathering’ the better. I think on the next build I’m going to do clean, and then from each build after that try and get my head around just one type of technique.

Anyway – it is what it is.

Nice work Stuart. I think that your work is perfectly fine, and you recognize that the kit decals were not up to par. I like the weathering, especially behind the radiator. That is a great touch. :shoutout:

Congratulations, Stuart! I appreciate your integrity with identifying the areas where the build does not live up to your expectations (decals) and where you personally found issues with your approach (rushing at the end). Each project leads us towards realizations about the choices we make and how we ultimately see ourselves. I am excited to see what happens next!

Congrats Stuart on finishing something and what an exceptional job that is. Despite your misgivings it is an excellent build and like Carlos said; the weathering looks great. You have a model there that you can be proud of.

Well done Stuart!

Typhoon is never wrong and to finish a build seen from my point of view, exceptional!

Thanks all,

I guess I am quite pleased with it although I can see where I can improve on the next one. I do have another typhoon in the stash (Eduard 1/48) and I'm looking forward to bringing what I've learnt onto that one,

This is just absolutely lovely. The finish you got on that aircraft is fantastic. You do amazing work with brushes, my man.
