Thank you, sincerely, for visiting the lower levels of the forum. It is time to order paint. Now all I need are a couple of packs of Luckies (cough, cough) and a case of Rolling Rock (burp, burp) to complete the transformation into Pennsylvania of the early Sixties, to stand shoulder to shoulder with my Dad and Uncle Jack when they were building slot cars in his parent’s garage.

You might appreciate this...

Still waiting for the new Lexan shell to arrive from Italy, my patience evaporates. I decide to go commando by heating water in a pan, to warm up the rear quarter panels of the fragile, 55-plus year old plastic. I think... it worked! I was... worried!

While I await a new body shell as well as eight tires from various parts of Europe, I want to post two reasons why slot car modeling excites me.

This is a modern slot car kit:

This is a completed model ready to race:

Lower levels? Oh no, absolutely not Bruce !

An interesting thread that needs perhaps a little bit more interractions from the audience!

What I am amazed of is the scale of these slot cars. I guess the weight might be an issue, but is it common that slotcars get a "regular" plastic kits body instead of the transparent, thinner and hence lighter weight ?
-------
Found these two on a fleamarket for 4,5 euros ( ~6 dollars).. Thought immediately of you Bruce when I saw the Ferrari!
Someone without a file/sanding stick and a sidecutter has started with the Ferrari.. But nothing that could not be "reversed".
The Bugatti is untouched, but it is a car / subject that does not interest me "what-so-ever-at-all", but perhaps a subject to be sold forward.. :hmm:

Thank you so much, Kari, Joe and Carlos! I sincerely appreciate your deeds as well as words! I was thinking about a Ferrari model, so I will be curious to see what happens along the way with your project, Kari. The two shells I have are butyrate plastic, and delicate. I am debating using an engine degreaser to remove all of the paint. I bet these cars were painted with Pactra paints and also by hand. Well—I know the details were painted by hand because of the marks left behind. I have had no luck at all removing whatever black paint was used.
