1/48 AH-64 Decals... Help!

Post by Stuart »

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to source some 1/48 US Army AH-64A decals. So far I've tried Hannants, ebay, Flying Leathernecks and TwoBobs - does anyone know of any other decal manufactures that do them.

I got my Airfix kit in the post otday and what's in the box isn't too inspiring - for starters they call it a YAH-46!!!

Thanks Mike.

Bit of a pain actually - I can find plenty of 1/72 stuff but nowt in larger scale - not unless I pay £30+ for a Isradecal sheet.

If nothing else I might have to just find some generic US Army Helo decals and make use of them.

I've checked all the model sites along with Amazon and eBay.

Yeah me too, and Squadron - thanks for taking the time to look Mike - much appreciated, at least I know it's not just me.

I was working my way through all the little decal supplier's too but I've run out of ones I know.

Did you get your AH-1Z and Huey decals sorted?

Not yet. Not in any real hurry. I know Flying Leathernecks Decals will be doing some soon for both kits.

Wow, I was just checking Scalemates for all 1/48 Apache stuff, and the pickings are slim indeed for decals. Most are non US, or later models, not the A like your kit. YAH-64? That’s what it was when I enlisted back when Ronnie and Maggie were in charge...
But I digress. If you’re building this immediately, most any 1/48 US Army helicopter markings will do, For the most part, Apaches were marked generically with standardized markings (United States Army, serial number, stencils). Unit markings and personal art was hit and miss and pretty much only showed up in wartime. So decals for a Cobra or Huey of that time will work.
Now if you’re not building it anytime soon, and can wait a month or more, I have a Testors Apache kit in my stash and will not be building it in US markings, but will be doing it as IDF. So you are welcome to have that decal sheet. Decals are by Scale Master, which usually pretty good. However it’s an older secondhand kit that I bought off eBay, so I can’t vouch for them completely. I think that I may have some old Fujimi TOW Cobra decals as well. But as my stash is in Arizona and I’m in California for a few more weeks, you can see the reason for a delay.

Hi Carlos,

That's a really kind offer and I'll certainly take you up on it if I can't source some others. I will be starting the kit fairly soon but it'll take me a while to build it anyway.

I'll scan up the decals that I have so you guys can see what I've got - maybe some of them might be usable if I go generic anyway. :hmm:

How long have you got until you're out in Arizona permanently?

Cheers!

You could try joining a FB Group? I know Marius and I are part of a European FB Group for custom decals. You might want to search and see if there is a UK based one!

Stuart, three more weeks until I’m in AZ full time. My last day of work is March 3rd.
