Yeah the cone shape was always a bit 'interesting' on MB Lightnings. It's not that the shape of the cone is wrong as such, but it sits far too forward in the intake. Looking forward to seeing your 3D printed parts.

Was the shock cone on the lightning movable like on other types such as the SR-71 or MiG-21? On those types the cones would move to regulate the amount of airflow into the engine based upon airspeed.

That's what I was wondering - I think they are, but I'd have to check. It looks to me like the kit part has it extended incorrectly...

At Shannon Aviation Museum it seemed to me there were no movable cone-parts.
The difficult part of the upcoming 3d modeling is that I have only references without any dimensions. Nevertheless the printout needs to match the kit dimensions. Such works are always difficult because even correct dimensions could lead to a wrong optical shape. I will keep you informed.

But Marius, isn't Hermeskeil airplane museum reasonably close, 3 hrs drive, from Wuppertal ?

I was there 2015 and since that have always wanted to go back. Great museum!

Yes it is Kari. Last time I was there was probably 30 years ago. But it is great. Really. Shannon Aviation Museum was on our vacation trip through Ireland.
