1/35 SS-23 Spider - Trumpeter

Post by Thomas_M »

One of the (too) many builds going on here: Trumpeter´s amazing SS-23 kit. While attending the ScaleMates Meeting on the beautiful island of Wangerooge this was one of the kits I started working on. Luckily, the motivation to do some more work is still there, so here we have some WIP pics.

I also make use of Voyager´s upgrade set PE 35732. Looking at the high number of mostly tiny PE parts and the manual of this upgrade set, the first thought was: go and sell it... :headslap: But I will try to use as many as possible of the parts provided.

As we had a recent discussion here on what glues we use I will start with some pictures of the UV sensitive glue I use for attaching PE parts here and there. One of the greatest advantages is that one has plenty of time to adjust the PE parts, before hitting the glue with the death ray of UV light to fix it in a second!

That´s the glue and UV lamp I use these days.

Some pics of the first PE parts attached. This will keep me busy for weeks!

All those parts have to be cleaned and perfectly folded up. Oh, my...

Only a few more PE parts having been prepared and collected so far:

Also, the crew compartment has been done, ready to get glued into the long (!) hull:

The rear wall with whatever those instruments are!

The front of the compartment, nicely detailled:

That´s it so far. More when some progress has been done!

When I read "SS-23" I thought you 're building a ship. :headslap:
A quick check over at Scalemates showed me what we're talking about here. NATO-Doppelbeschluss comes to mind.
I hope you can keep up your motivation for this one, Thomas, as this is a very promising start. I like your dedication to details with those microscopic pe-parts. Keep rolling, bro!

Prepared some 20+ more of those tiny PE parts today. Still 10 of them to go. Makes my eyes hurt, so I am taking a break now.
After those little ones there are countless larger one to do. Fun! :headslap:

Thank you, guys, for the nice comments! Very motivating!

Thank you, Sir!

Just finished preparing all those tiny PE parts. I also applied many of those to the crew compartment you see above. Picture to follow.
I call it a day now. :whiteflag:

Very nice work on the interior! And you are quite the madman to tackle all that tiny PE...

I am stoked to see your work, Thomas! I missed the blue backgrounds, too. I think my Mustang build will feature blue backgrounds to honor your influence! You and Kari using UV light to cure glue... magic exists!!!

Oh, wait what is this? I need to look it up...
