ESCI 1/72 F-100D Super Sabre

Post by Stuart »

Started on this over the weekend - my first Esci kit...

It's a cracking kit, the fit is excellent.

This is where I got to over the weekend.

Cheers?

Never built it but always heard good things about it. I did build the Italeri F-100D.
Not sure if Italeri is a modified esci mold but it was a fun build...

Very cool Stuart! I built the Monogram kit back when I was a kid.

Same here but not the Thunderbirds scheme.

Thanks Gents!

I probably should have said that the kit I bought from ebay didn't have any decals, so I've had to buy a set from Xtradecal - I'll probably do the top scheme.

Image

Also, because ESCI boxed this as a 'Thunderbirds' kit, rather than their standard F-100D, they removed any weapons and didn't even include the inner and outer pylons - just the tanks on the middle wing pylons. Luckily, I was able to buy a set off ebay! They're from a FROG kit, but they do fit and I've drilled the holes in the wing accordingly.

Any suggestions for what to hang from this thing - I'm not very up on Super Sabres.

Cheers!

Kere's a couple of photos. D's in Viet Nam carried dumb bombs mostly, the other photo is a publicity photo of course, with dumb bombs on the ground but bull pups on the wing and I'm pretty sure a bull pup guidance pod on the the outer left wing pylon. The last photo is with a Mk 7 nuke shape although the airplane is an F-100C.

Thanks John - those are really useful. I quite like the idea of some Bullpups and the targeting pod. The Mk.7 is cool - interesting that they hung it from the middle pylon, where the tanks normally go.
