Today is the birthday of the Republic of Texas, and ironically, considering the great service he rendered to that republic and later, state, that of Sam Houston. I can't believe that a big-budget biopic of Sam Houston's life hasn't been made yet. As far as I know, his life and career are unsurpassed in American History. Governor of two states, member of Congress from two states, victorious general of a national army and president of a republic, nobody else comes close imho... As well as living with the Cherokee on several occasion; they gave him two nicknames; Raven and Big Drunk.
To his great and everlasting credit, Houston resigned from the governor's office rather than swear an oath of loyalty to the nascent Confederacy. He spoke across the state denouncing secession and rightfully predicted the outcome of the Civil War although he didn't live to see it. Who will we get to play him? Let's just forget about Dennis Quaid...

One of the delights of the "Big Labowski"!
John, my wife tells me that we watched that, but I can't remember it at all.keavdog wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 2:28 pm Funny - I didn't know this when I posted Sam Elliot
