Re: Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire XIVe Conversion

It's been a while but I think I can get back onto this build. After starting this build, I've learned that the XIVe cockpit differs in some ways from the XVIe and I wanted to attempt to address some of those differences. The most significant is a big control panel that resides on the port sidewall. ...

Re: Border 1/35 Fw 190A-6 Nowotny Double Chevron

:shoutout: :shoutout: :shoutout:    A gorgeous finish John! I do like how the engine access panels are removable to show off the nose area. Thanks Carlos! Appreciate the positive feedback! You know how much I love watching every single build. I have no words except sit back and follo...

Border 1/35 Fw 190A-6 Nowotny Double Chevron

Here is my finished Border 1/35 Fw 190A-6 painted in the markings of Walter Nowotny's Double Chevron. It was built mostly out-of-the-box since I couldn't find much in the way aftermarket for this kit at the time. Major markings were painted using custom cut masks. The kit was slightly modified to de...

Re: Border 1/35 Focke Wulf Fw190A-5 Nowotny Double Chevron

No interest in this one, eh boys? It's been a while but she's not forgotten. I took the trouble of giving her a salt weathering treatment and got absolutely no visible results!  That knocked my enthusiasm back a bit. On the flip side, I've begun to attach the smaller bits and pieces including the wi...

Re: Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire XIVe Conversion

Thanks guys! In a bit of a holding pattern as I await some XIVe specific cockpit parts from Laminar Flow Designs. Decided to kill some time and assemble and paint the kit instrument panel to see how it would compare with the Quinta Panel. I started off trying to use the decals for the gauges but I h...

Re: Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire XIVe Conversion

With the daughters visiting, I haven't had much time on the modeling bench. I took a few hours looking at some of the cockpit parts. These bulkheads have lightening holes molded as circular depressions. https://i.postimg.cc/rm35yj9J/IMG-5581.jpg The holes were drilled out. https://i.postimg.cc/NFXmK...

Re: Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire XIVe Conversion

I decided to mount the Quinta instrument panel so the raised details on the kit part needs to be shaved down. https://i.postimg.cc/gjYZZgMW/IMG-5574.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/PxbDJgQy/IMG-5575.jpg The backing on the Quinta panels is a little sticky after removing it from the decal sheet but not tacky...

Re: Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire XIVe Conversion

I noticed that the paneling on the tail underneath the horizontal stabilizers were different between the XVIe and XIVe... XVIe per Tamiya instructions... https://i.postimg.cc/XvgYd520/XVIe-Tail.jpg XIVe per Junpei Temma's drawings... https://i.postimg.cc/63550QS4/XIVe-Tail.jpg So the errant panel li...

Re: Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire XIVe Conversion

The port side hatch removal is complete after a primer coat. https://i.postimg.cc/3NhmRtGg/IMG-5564.jpg Here is a look at the Quinta instrument panel. I masked each dial with tape and shot the panel with some clear flat. All of the pre-painted stuff, whether it is Eduard photoetch or 3D decals, look...
