Re: Ark Models Mig-3

Sadly, I had to dismantle the engine. Test fitted it with fuselage buttoned up. A very tight fit; even the top cover would not sit flush to the canopy. The only way to solve this is pull the cylinder heads off the block with the exhaust ports and glue them in their place. Don't matter to me since I'm...

Re: Ark Models Mig-3

Oh yeah... much better. I'm happy with the outcome. Just some very minor sanding on the wingtip and a little Mr. Surfacer 500 to fill in the tiny gaps. Once that's on, very minimal sanding to blend it in as if nothing was done. https://i.postimg.cc/NjjTQ01G/20240328-182241.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/x...

Re: Ark Models Mig-3

Very nice save on the short shot wings. I love the MiG-3 but I don't have the ICM kit. Quality control seems a bit of a problem. Maybe I should keep the Trumpeter kit on my list... I’d say keep the Trumpeter kit on your list. Get the ICM kit if you can, but it’s a late model type. Then get the Trum...

Quality control seems to be a good way to describe the short shot wing issue. Last night, I had looked into the Trumpe...

Re: ICM 1/35 CH-54A Tarhe

600 part count is a lot for this lady whirlybird workhorse. She's definitely gonna be a big girl when finished. Take your time with it. Don't be afraid to stop should you feel like you're losing some concentration or tired. I sometimes do so myself often. It's worth it coming back with a clear head ...

Re: Ark Models Mig-3

It's been a good night solving my wings problem. Thankfully, I had some styrene sheets from Lyle, last year. It definitely came in handy. I have to thank Lyle again. Further thinking and planning went into this all afternoon. I couldn't wait til later this evening to put it into action. I simply tra...

Re: Ark Models Mig-3

I've been thinking on how to move forward with this. Cutting out a small section where wingtip lights on lower wing and reposition to correct spot to upper wingtips Using scrap sheet styrene to fill in the areas is one possibility to correct this as opposed to putty work. It's doable but will I be s...

Re: Ark Models Mig-3

Looks like your upper wing halves were short shots… :hmm: I think it’s the lower wing halves. Look how the flap areas are curved as if they didn’t pour the styrene through. See if they will send you a replacement: info@ark-models.org Here's there site: https://www.ark-models.org/ I can try. Not sur...

Re: Ark Models Mig-3

Ok... here's the cockpit parts layout. Yeah, it's gonna be a fiddly one.... https://i.postimg.cc/Wp04PYYZ/20240326-190708.jpg Now on to dry test fitting the wing halves. Oh boy.... not what I was expecting to see.... :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: https://i.postimg.cc/rm8fFPC...
