Airfix 1/48 Frontline Fighters gift set...

Post by Stuart »

Hi all,

To go with the Tornado I'm building for the Jet GB I've started this...

Image

Not a bad set, both kits need a bit of TLC but scrub up well. I'll be building OOB.

The cockpits are built and I'm working on the paint.

Image

One issue with the F.3 is the need to re-scribe the lower half of the fuselage...

Cheers!

Thanks Gents.

I should mentioned that if you ever buy this kit, try and get a later boxing like this. The ADV has a longer fuselage than the strike variant (so that is could carry four Skyflash AAMs) which was achieved by inserting a 1.3m plug behind the cockpit. When this kit was it was released. Airfix got the insert in the wrong place and thusly, the Navigators cockpit was too large and in the wrong place. On later releases like this one a corrected top fuselage half was added to the kit, but for whatever reason, it was engraved rather then raised. Thus my need to re-scribe the rest of the kit.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting the head off a Hydra, two more take it’s place.

Stuart...you are an animal!
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

The ADV also has a longer radome and different radar than the IDS versions, due to it being configured for the long range air intercept mission, compared to low level strike.

This will be a beauty to watch!

Uhhhggg!! That Jag kit is the one that RoG reboxed not long ago. I tried it and it was all kinds of a nightmare. It became a paint mule now.

True - I should know that of course as I used to make them both :headslap:

Pah - wuss!

I didn't think it looked too bad, certainly the fit doesn't just as bad as the Tornado (not good you understand, just not as bad  ) - but I agree it does look like it's going need a bit of effort.

Both good experience for when I tackle the Buccaneer however... :whiteflag:

My Jag was warped and was arguably one of the worst fitting kits ever. I can manage a lot of issues but this wasn't worth it.
