Italeri Mirage F1C

Post by BlackSheep214 »

My second choice. 1/48 Italeri Mirage F1C. I will admit, I had been working on this last week a bit. This is what I've gotten done thus far...

Rear fins installed on fuselage.

Wings, pylon points attached, weapons, cockpit, center belly tank and three tiny fins on pod - the skinny one on the lower right. Boy, were they a nail biter when using tweezers and gluing them on. I was sure they were going to shoot off the tweezers into the vast nothingness to God knows where. Each fin was about a little over 1/16th - 3/32nd an inch each. Thankfully, they didn't fly off the tweezers. Used Gorilla glue to hold them in place.

I’d love to get at least another pair of the sidewinders instead of using the larger “bullpup” style missiles.

I do love the F1C! It’s a sexier, more elegant design than the delta wing Mirages.

The missiles are the R550 Magic, the Sidewinder type, and the R530, . In AM, Eduard makes some nice R550 Magics, and I think some R530s as well.

Looks like fast progress so far! :shoutout:

To give you an idea just how tiny these pylon fins were....

One of those pods is an ECM pod and the other is a chaff dispenser.

Thanks for the info. Kit instruction guide never specified what they were. I knew one of them was sort of an ECM pod. Didn't know what the other was.

I believe that it is the Barracuda ECM pod with the two lower blade antennas and the chisel/blade ends, and the Phimat chaff dispenser that looks similar to a missile with the pointed nose, tail fins, and blunt trailing edge

Totally agree with that - it's always been my favourite Mirage.

Great progress thus far Tom - looks like you're having fun with those tiny little bits!

Great to see! Not too familiar with this aircraft so it is doubly interesting.
