I think you nailed the mottling most effectively. Well done! This is looking excellent man, I never would have known the solid colors weren't airbrushed.

The mottling isn't the best, but not bad considering it was done with a brush and my first attempt.

Cheers

Stuart
Mottling with a brush is not easy to master. You are well on you’re way to mastering that technique yourself,

:P1:

I have kept a couple of times that new Airfix box in my hands, wondering should I or not...
Looks good, not only the kit but the build of course!

Looking at these pictures... it starts to feel more like "yes I should"...

Kari, if I built 1/72, I’d snatch up one of the new 72nd Airfix kits in a New York minute... they are the best bang for your buck... especially in 1:72. Their new 1/48 stuff is impressive as well!

Thanks for the kind coments chaps - I certainly hope I'm getting there when it comes to brush painting... But alas I've ruined yet another build thanks to crap water based clear coating... I have realy hit a wall with this - what's the point in trying to get a decent paint finish only to have it ruined by sodding clears. I've tried 5 different types, I've tried rattle cans - thinning, flow enhancer - they are all bloody inconsistant and ruin everything

I really am sick of them...

My final verdict on this build....

I really am considering just giving this blooming hobby up.

Oh no Stuart ! Before giving up, give the air brush a chance! It might change your mind...
