British phantom FGR.2 "Firebirds"
Re: British phantom FGR.2 "Firebirds"
Ahhh, the the colorized spray filmy stuff de-stuckified from the whozitmagadgetatron. Now it makes sense.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

All fixed and just sprayed a coat of gloss clearcoat in preparation for decals.

MM Acrylic has very poor adhesion properties to bare styrene, no matter how well prepped, unless applied over a primer that has excellent adhesion, such as Tamiya, Humbrol, Gunze, or something similar. MM Acrylic primer isn’t a true primer that bites into the subsurface, but instead just a “primer gray” acrylic paint, with no special formulation than the rest of the paint line.tempestjohnny wrote:I have always had trouble getting MM acrylic anything to stick

Yeah, it didn't take long for me to realize MM acrylic primer sucked. Never again. I usually use rattle can Rustoleum primer with great results; even when using MM acrylics. Its possible mine were their acrylic original formula. I'd say about 90 % of MM acrylics were the older stock.
However, I am starting to like Gunze line of paint as well as Humbrol enamels. Too bad Humbrol couldn't put them in bigger tins like Gunze.

Re: British phantom FGR.2 "Firebirds"
Decaling has commenced! In case anyone is interested in how many decals this bird has... 175 in all - 99% are stencils alone.
Started on the undersides which has about 21 decals in all. 70 are for topside wings. The remaining 84 are on the fuselage (42 each side). No way I’ll do it all in a span of a couple days. My plan is to work in sections at a time over a few days without straining and tiring my eyes. The last thing I don’t want to do is rush and make mistakes.

So far I got the stencil decals on the underside wing tips. By that time it was 10 p.m. and my eyes were getting tired. It was time to call it quits. All is left is the lettering (XT901) on each wing.
Then I'll proceed with the topside wings stencils. Most likely I'll do one wing at a time. 35 stencils each wing in all.
