'57 Chevy Nomad "El Camino" - A Custom Restomod Build

Post by BlackSheep214 »

I got this kit on eBay earlier this year and it lacked decals. Plus this kit is an old re-pop of having hinges to open doors on the kit. I remember having one of these kits in my youth and hated them. Never could get them to open / close straight.

Instead of trashing it, I decided to create a Custom Restomod Nomad El Camino. So here are a couple pics of how I'm planning to turn this into an El Camino. You can see the lines I'm looking to cut....

The rear portion roof line marked will be used to merge somehow to the dotted line up front. The rear front seat door post will remain to hold in place.

I haven't figure out the bed portion yet. My thinking is repurpose the rear interior section and sand smooth, floor included. All doors will be glued shut. The other challenge is the back portion to create the cab and cut the rear window to size.

Any other ideas / thoughts would be appreciated. Joe... are you seeing this? LOLOLOLOL!!!

Put wings on it and make companion to the “Spaceballs” Winnebago!

Surgery time! I like the Nomad - saw one at Firebird raceway in Idaho the first time I ever drag raced. I was visiting my brother in the AF at Mt Home AFB and got to run his 412 color mustang a few times - I was 15 and didn't have my drivers license yet lol.

Looking forward to this project.

I love a good surgery in plastic, I'm on board. This will be quite a feat, and the concept is solid since you are starting out with a great kit.
Now that we know that.... What have we learned?...

Make sure you have a sterile field when you start the surgery.
