1/700 Dragon Type 42 Destroyer Premium Edition

Post by Glamdring »

It's no great feat, and most of the work was done last year, but I can call this 1/700 Dragon Type 42 Destroyer Premium Edition done. Markings are as the Argentinian ship the ARA Hercules. It was a trying experience, as I bought it off Ebay and discovered the decals were MIA. Dragon was of zero help in getting a replacement, and nobody has AM decals in production anymore for generic 1/700 modern Royal Navy vessels. I ended up using a generic set of modern US Carrier decals to approximate what was on the deck.

Then the flag at the stern defeated all my attempts at custom printing a decal so I ended up just cutting a strip of the white decal paper and painting the sky blue stripes with a gold dot in the middle on it just to be done with it.

The thing I love about 1/700 destroyers is their extremely small footprint. It is roughly 7 inches long and maybe an 3/4 of and inch wide.

Wouh, that is really a great build, so much details despite the scale!

Well done! You did a great job staying ,with it!

Very nice looking build GD! Those 1/700 Destroyers are small footprint builds indeed. Kinda ironic that you built this one as Argentine, considering that they sank two and damaged at least one more during the Falklands War.
I do wish that somebody would make a Type 42 in 1/350 injection plastic.

Thanks guys!

@Stik: This was my entry for Bish's Falklands GB over at the other site. I felt that the opposition needed a little representation in it. :giggles:

I'd say you did a brilliant job, far better than mine. You have every reason to be proud of that.
