wet palette?

In my quest to get better at figure painting, I've come across suggestions to use a "wet palette", a system for keeping acrylics from drying out so quickly. Do any of our members use one, and if so, what brand is it and are you happy with its performance? A quick search on Amazon reveals a bunch of them, but surely there must be favorites among modelers. Thanks for any advice here!

I got this one I think from Hobby Lobby. Haven't tried it yet though.

I love my wet pallet - it's been a total game changer for my brush painting and next to my W&N series 7 brushes, it's probably the best modelling tool I've ever purchased - as you can see mine gets used a lot. It's this pallet that stops me from bothering how to use my airbrush.



tbh - if you're not sure about them, just get yourself a cheap £10 one from Amazon (which this is) and see how you get on with it. I'm probably going to upgrade mine soon so I can just use this for metallics (not a good idea to mix them). Let me know if you need any other advice - I may not know much about modelling - but I know brush painting.

Thanks for the responses guys! Mike, the Hobby Lobby in Temple didn't have any wet palettes, or I just never found them maybe. But, that's one I've seen well recommended in a "best wet palette" article. Stuart, your enthusiasm convinces me that I do need one! I know it will be helpful for figure painting, and I've just got to improve my game there. I also stocked up on some additional Vallejo paints while at HL. Acrylics are a new game for me and far outside my comfort zone at the moment. I plan to change that!

I'll probably take the plunge and order one today from Amazon. Onward through the fog!

I would think so, I had art books back in the day that talked about acrylics and wet pallets.

I use one from a brand called The Hobby Painter. This is a brand that caters to wargaming figure painting. A little pricier, but it has a storage compartment as part of the lid and an elastic band to keep it closed.

I found it is a night and day difference after first using it, and I can't imagine larger scale figure painting without it anymore.

It just makes mixing and blending paints infinitely easier, not to mention they last longer on the palette so it saves on paint.
