Monogram 1:48 F-14A (IW)
Re: Monogram 1:48 F-14A (IW)
That's a healthy point of view. I really like it when those classics are still getting build.
When the sun of culture hangs low even dwarfs throw shadows.

I painted these burner cans with Polly Scale Aged White. I found they fit snuggly into the polly scale paint jar. You can see the paint on the outside indicates how far down into the jar they went. I just turned the jar almost 90 degress on its side and rotated it to let the paint flow and cover everything -- didn't spill a bit either. Now a bit of 'soot' streaking and they should be good to go.
I created some ejection seat assembly jigs and thought of that TV show on Animal Planet called Wild West Alaska--the part in the intro where Ken says "look at what my genius has achieved"

Yeah, I get that. This is the one I have affection for, even have a kit I can build it from as well as a pristine kit that I paid way too much for and better sell for more before all us baby boomers go out of the modeling business! I got it for Christmas in 1957. 67 years ago. I perfectly remember having a terrible time painting the deicer boots on an A-4 because my hands shook too much, My hands still shake too much but at least now I now that the A-4 doesn't have boots!cbaltrin wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 6:39 amBut It's good pain John! I built a few of these when I was too young to know that all kits were not awesome. The imagination and excitement of a youthful modeler, building a kit of a plane he wanted to fly when he grew up, blinded one to a kit's 'problems'. So I am stuck with my nostalgic affection for this kit and brand..

I can see how that kit would have the same sort of affect on a young lad John...
And don't worry about the deicer boot incident -- at least you never went into your local hobby shop and asked them where they kept the stretched sprue that you had been reading about in FSM

Thanks Bruce, That's probably the best compliment I have ever had on a thread I started. Of course, it would not be as entertaining without all the replies from the other folks, so I can't take all the credit!speedgraflex wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 2:51 pm This was a really fun thread to read. Stay tuned--more is on the way...
