1/48 Trumpy MiG-21F-13 "White 2015"

Late last year I started building Academy's 1/32 F-16I as a Greek F-16D Block 52 and it nearly wrecked me. Every possible thing that could go wrong went wrong, and on whole the thing probably robbed me of two completed builds for the year.

In the wake, I made a decision to abandon 1/32 scale for jets. Kit selection and quality are spotty at best, and aftermarket - particularly on the markings side - is downright anemic next to 1/48. So the 1/32 side of the stash got sold, and I've been adding to the 1/48 jet stash pretty steadily off the proceeds.

First off the block, I decided to tackle Trumpeter's MiG-21F-13. Pretty simple kit. A subject I'm not terribly familiar with and extremely limited aftermarket, so temptations to go all AMS with it were at a minimum. All I knew was...I would be doing the Polish White 2015 derelict.

Seems to be a solid kit that can compete with the Eduard range of this type.
Did you use liquid mask or chipping fluid? I think I read something about this "frisket" stuff on your blog.

Thanks! Overall this is a solid kit, but the wing-to-fuselage join is just lazy beyond belief. Literally...two little pins. Eduard definitely has Trumpeter beat in the engineering regard here, but...Eduard doesn't make a Fishbed C.

This chipping was done using AK Worn Effects. Liquid Frisket works great for certain things (I used it to mask for the putty lines on my Me 262), but it's not too good at this sort of distributed chipping effect.

Ah, I see. Have a He 162 here that is planned for a scheme with putty lines. Think I'll go with the Schmincke Aqua Masking Fluid Pens.
Schmincke products are easy to get here in Europe and I'm sure the content is similarly. It will show if the pen is able to apply fine lines, though.
