Painting the pit!

Started with my pre-shade...very dark grey...over all.



Then, "marble" on some white...



Then some highly thinned color...probably 50-60% thinner. Built up slowly.
Kinda hard to see the subtlety in pic.





Back to the bench for detail painting!

Nothin quick about it, muh man!
I had 5-6hrs on Sat, another 5-6hrs yesterday, just working on the parts...no paint.
Had ALL day today! I've easily got 20 hours in the pit alone. That does include a little research time, pouring through pics and whatnot. I don't think I'm really any faster than anyone...I just have more time to put in at the bench. Work season is over...I'm at home til April!

Sweet work on the seat and canopy frame! Do you use tape to represent the wiring tie downs along the side of the canopy hood frame? (I'm getting ideas for use on my next new start 1/32 project)

Yes, that is tape. I just cut a thin strip, and slice little lengths for the "tie downs". I do not trust the tapes addhesive though. I put down a tiny dab of CA on one side, stick the tape to it...wait a minute...CA on the other side...wrap/stick...done. Same goes for the seat harnesses.

Back at this one for a bit!

Some intake work.
The intake "trunk" has a fat, flat front to it, as does the fuselage part, that goes around the intake trunk. The two combined leaves a blunt 3/16th inch flat spot. Not a problem, if the little vent doors are to be closed. I've seen plenty of pics with them closed, plenty open, and a couple few that have the top 4 open, while the bottom 3 are closed. I'm going for the later.

You can see, in this pic, what I'm talking about, with the flat spot.


The trunk piece barely makes contact with the fuselage piece...I did some grinding and filling and sanding and filling and sanding.....
I only did the area were the vents will be open...



Also went ahead and painted the inside of the intakes, as it would be a major PITA to get the angle to paint em after being installed.



In that condition, I can just stuff a wad of whatever in there to plug it up.

You've picked the right choice - the aux intake flaps were spring loaded I think, or maybe just opened by airflow??? but anyway - when parked the bottom flaps were closed and the uppers open due to gravity. When sitting on the ground with the peggy running they would all be open and in fwd flight they would all be closed.
