I made a sketch based on your progress the other day and that was one of the items I circled a question mark around. I was figuring out how the plane's identification number, the 'Black One," and balkenkrueze lateral placements were marked off. I found information at the Luftwaffe Archives to be very useful decoding what you are doing...
I spent another twenty minutes reading about Dortenmann on a WWII forum where his character was being discussed based on "Green Hearts," with many details coming from Dortenmann's journal. What was new to me was the high regard the younger pilots held for him. Apparently he "never lost a wingman when he made a kill," which showcases a person who has his leadership priorities in order, and he also refused to follow orders if the orders jeopardized the safety of his pilots. He was quite a formidable commander.
Finally, it remains utterly fascinating seeing you work on the smallest of details with such clean and clear techniques. There is much to study. Congratulations!
