So I’m thinking about washes and panel lines. I don’t think I want to do them on this model. The black primer has already accentuated the panel lines and details, and they’re subtle but evident. They’re visible when the light is right. I think for this model, they’re unnecessary. This model.
For me. This is not an indictment against what y’all do, if you like to pre-shade or post-shade, that’s alright by me, that’s your self-expression and it’s valid, lovely, and awesome. This is for me and for this model. This is your friend, the old boy Kenny X, finding his own style, for an aircraft like this. I like how they appear and disappear depending on the light.

Finding your own style is the best thing you can do! And it sounds like you have here. Try this on build A and that on build B. Combine what you like best of the previous into Build C. If you like what you’re seeing now, you’re on the right track.

Also, Carlos, your breakdown of that personal methodology is real. That’s what the Chinese refer to as The Dao. Take that out of the modeling and apply it to everything, and you’ve got a true way of LIVING right there.

On my own time, I pretty much do... work however does not quite give me that much latitude to decide what to discard and what to keep in how things are done... ah well...

Definitely trust your own eyes, Kenny! I'm big proponent of washes, myself. What I like about them, especially when applied to exterior surfaces, is that it takes away from the physical depth of the rivets and panel lines. When I look at untreated rivets and panel lines on a model, I see physical grooves and holes. Applying a wash flattens them out and makes them look like lines and dots, which, to my eye anyway, is more scale-appropriate.

That is a good way to describe them John. In real life, on countersunk rivets and butt joined skin panels, the grooves are minuscule, the ones on our models are literally larger. Yet somehow, all sorts of things accumulate in those microscopic openings and become visible. Now raised rivets, overlapping skin panels, and access hatches are a whole different category...

Alright! Got a couple of things for today’s Emil Update-

First, and possibly most importantly: Bruce! I really enjoyed that song you posted. I’ve never heard of him before, and later on tonight I plan on falling down a YouTube rabbit hole looking for more of his songs. That was great!

Secondly: All decals are done! Very happy about that.
