For my 2 cents worth, I second Stik. The more styrene you can get in there, the better. You will nail it.

Hard to diagnose without the parts in hand.

This doesn't look too bad. I would glue the fuselage together normally and then fill in the gaps between the wings and fuselage bottom with shims or glue-goo. Avoid using putty here... I think it would be very susceptible to cracking.


For the gap between the wing tops and fuselage, I would first try and use spreader bars to see if that increases the contact area enough to get a glue joint. If not, shims.


I don't remember mentioning this fit issue initially? How do the fuselage and wings fit together WITHOUT the cockpit?

Thank you for your thoughts and encouragement, gents. I don’t know why the fit is different for me this time around, but it does. I am going to take apart of everything and clean the parts again. The issue might be that the wing assembly was still taped together the way it was the first time I put it together. Perhaps the pieces slipped.

John—Thank you so much for the excellent question about fitting the fuselage without the cockpit! Indeed, I may have done just that or packed the cockpit with more “fitting material” this time around.

Sometimes you just have to commit parts to glue in order to move on to the next step. Especially if dry-fitting is imprecise or not completely positive.

John— Thanks very much for making an excellent point. I certainly owe you for making a statement of practicality. The most important reason why I shared these fit issues I really should photograph, and I did not do so much to my chagrin. Mainly, by the fuselage fit pushing the port wing slightly forward, all the panel lines leading from fuse to wing which ought to line up do not. A slight adjustment problem causes these lines not to meet up as they should. Although this is a small mismatch I do plan to rivet this aircraft or I did plan to do so and now I am unsure.

Can't tell you how many times I've test fitted and test fitted after extensive mods only to have the "fit monster" bite me right in the a$$! Hang in there with it Bruce. You'll get it figured out dude.

Joe— Thank you so much. I know you and John both know how to fit aircraft models together at the highest level. Your Anton is definitely the best rendition of every modeling potential available from the kit—including open panels. His Schwalbe is conversely a triumph of fitting closed panels. As far as I am concerned I do not want to start grinding or adding to the wing fuselage joins just yet, but that mismatched fuselage is a problem for me.
