Airfix 1/48 BP Defiant

Post by keavdog »

First Airfix kit in probably 30 years. I heard great things about their latest kits and they are accurate! I've always liked the Defiant - though it was a dismal failure after the Germans figured out what it was. Anyhow - building this for an 80 years of Airfix group build over on FSM. So far the kit has gone together really well. I'm not familiar with Airfix instructions so I have to keep reviewing. The wing has 5 parts which I found curious. Overall this is really nice.

The panel decal is great - I just didn't pay attention and it's off register. But really nice.

I was looking forward to trying a freehand cammo with my new Badger Krome... but none of my four hoses matched the threads... hose 5 on the way. So I went the sausage method :hmm: and used my Paasche H.
Image
Not exact but close enough for my liking, besides I'm sure they all didn't look like the pic.

And the refuse... lots of material consumed using this method

John that's looks great. Using the sausage method is probably the best for British camo anyway. It was almost a hard line between colors.

I have the 1/72 Defiant in the stash

Waiting for the new Airfix Spitfire XIV to make it across to add to my growing 48th Spit collection

Excellent work so far! The IP looks sweet and the the camo is dead on!

As much as I enjoy a good freehand camo job (I did that on my Corsair), I think you made the right call. It sucks having to change the play at the last minute, but you pulled that sausage method off very nicely and I think the camo on there looks fantastic. I wouldn’t hesitate to employ this method on a camo job like this one. You did very well.

The Airfix Defiant has been on my wish list for some time. I want to do the NF version if and when I get one. There’s something about the Defiant that attracted me to it. Maybe it’s the lines and the ball turret. Anyway, it’s looking good. The camo looks good enough for me.

Camo is spot on, poster putty has so many uses in this hobby. I got the classic airframes kit of this but i don't know much about the aircraft.

John, way to go! Beautiful job on that perfect camo pattern. Clearcoat looks nice and shiny! I love the wall behind it.
