I was thinking maybe one could subdue that effect with altering the paint color. Perhaps lightening it “for scale” as it were. But here’s the issues at least for me- it’s 1:32, and I’ve come to really like that NAVY Blue color and I’d be disinclined to lighten it at all just to take attention away from some surface details. The aircraft would end up looking a bit overdone weatheringwise, I fear.

If the airplane was all solid intermediate blue? No problem! That color, at least when mixed with Tamiya paints, looks lovely lightened up. That NAVY Blue? No, I can’t see that working.

Just to note - it's 1/24th not 1/32nd.

And maybe that's the issue. Perhaps we're so used to seeing 1/48 and 1/32 models it's difficult to gauge this kit without actually seeing it in the flesh.

I am wondering if the builder of that kit used finishing techniques to make the stress skinned appearance stand out more. It almost looks to be that way. Some aircraft should have the stressed skin effect, but I don’t think that the F6F is one of them.

It does look a bit overdone, to me. Perhaps, a judicious application of grit-infused layers of wood pulp material would bring it back a notch or two.

Oh crap, 1:24? HOLY COW! Cool as it is, I’m not touching that. Not right now. 1:48 it’s easy to cover up or downplay the mistakes I might make. A whoops with a 1:24 would stand out like second, demonic head growing out of the side of Christina Applegate’s neck!
