so, do you paint it all together like that?

For the most part. When I build something simple, I will. Otherwise I paint major assemblies first, then details. My Sd.Kfz. 250 is being painted in stages, but only because of the complicated construction. All the tools, weapons, etc... are being painted separately. These US half tracks are basically a box, much like a tank, so I find it easier to shoot the whole thing in a base color, then pick the details out.

I'm in the detail and crew phase now.

They probably got held up arguing over who had the better K ration....

As the build draws to a close, (I'll post pics of the vehicle at a later date), I decided it would be driving through a damaged town on it's way to the front. Being the detail oriented nut job that I can be, I decided that resin cobblestone didn't look good enough, so I created my own using spackling compound. I used a piece of cardboard taped to one side to give me height, tape around the edges to keep things tidy, and then put it on.



Here you can see where I've measured and scribed horizontal lines approx 1mm apart, then started scribing stones with a sewing pin held by a pin vise.



Here's after I finished scribing. Now on to painting!

Joe, this is pure art! Looks easy to do but surely needs a lot of artistic talent to get such a fantastic example of a stone base!
