I put on a base coat of Mr Surfacer 1200, because of the white and the fact that this was a research aircraft I choose not to black base. Then a coat of Tamiya white thinned with Mr self levelling thinner. A bit of an experiment but yes, you can thin Tamiya acrylics with a laquer thinner.

Thanks for the support. Unfortunately I created my own setback in this build. I did the red but had a lot of overspray on the wings. My own fault because I had masked to little. To make matters worse I thought I could wipe it of with a q tip soaked in white spirit but that just ate right trough the paint. :Bur2: So when I am back from vacation I hope I have regained enough energy to tackle that problem.

As for the canopy. It is quite nice, I am even thinking of making it available for other modellers. Not sure how to do that but I will find out. (Don't we all dream of starting a little modelling business?)

Shame about the paint - I'm sure you'll sort it though!

Well I finally did sort it out. Masked off the red and resprayed the white.

The masking was a tad sloppy so now there are two shades of white. But the following coats will sort that out.

Borg, great work. Your ability to experiment and keep clear steps—and a positive approach are an important combination. I appreciate your specific choices. Personally, I applaud you for fabricating the canopy! Bravo. Looking toward the final reveal!!

Cheers.

Thanks! I brushed on a Future gloss coat so everything is moving along nicely.
