I went back and softened the camo a tad. The edges were just too sharp for Italian camo. I'm also finished with the figures except for getting a dull coat and painting the pilots goggles.

What would be suggested for the goggle lenses? Silver just does not look right.

Same color for the frames as whatever is beneath. Drill them out, paint the same color as below, then put in a drop of clear.

Good decision! I read your post with the Silly Putty and was about to write a comment about the hard edges. Well done!

Some of the goggles where tinted in yellow back then. You may check references.

I haven't had much time this week to work on the Macchi. My brother-in-law suffered a heart attack Sunday and most of my evenings have been at the hospital or previous engagements. I'm hoping to get back to it by Friday and definitely Saturday/Sunday after some lawn work.
The goggles look fantastic by the way. I drilled them out slightly, added the helmet color and put a drop of acrylic varnish in each lens.

I admire the camouflage approach so much and took some notes on Silly Putty as well. I use kneaded eraser for almost everything I do—use blobs as painting masks and to hold pieces together as well. I'm sorry to hear about your brother-in-law as well; that's a tough place and I hope he recovers quickly. You asked about painting pointers on your figures and I ended up taking cues from your process. Thanks for posting here!

Silly Putty is a very versatile media and can be used several times. It can easily laid in a contours and works extremely well for RAF camo patterns.

A real superior build all around. The figures look spot on.
