Yep, fold'm. Looks like lots of fiddly bits on the landing gear, on an otherwise clean airframe.

Not sure anyone saw this, maybe the X-47 is the UFO in this pic...?

Paint on the drone!

Well...a little bit. Need to paint the intake trunk and exhaust, and figured I'd go ahead and get some of the surrounding areas while I'm at it. There are a few areas...the exhaust in particular...that are nearly impossible to mask if nothing's been pre-painted.

Now...onto a question.

The paint called out in the instructions is Gunze C306 - which is Gray FS36270. When I plug that FS# into the internet, it tells me that this is Model Master's FS for Neutral Gray. And hey...I've got Gunze Neutral Gray! So somehow I got target fixation on that and forgot all about C306 Gray. So..here's the X-47 with some C013 Neutral Gray on it. Which - in the bottle - is substantially darker than C306.

I'm still trying to sort if I think it needs a repaint or not.

Well, I've got 306, as well. Guess I can always do a test patch...

That's the problem with iModelKit...they only reference web samples vs actual color samples. It's way less a problem with MM, but Gunze and Vallejo are way off.

Here. A while back I scanned a bunch of my Gunze paints. Literally...drop of paint on styrene, scanned, and sampled with Photoshop. So much more accurate than the crappy web samples.

Lots of fun with the X-47 last night. For better or worse, I'm sticking with the Gunze Neutral Gray.

The intake trunk, gear bays and gear struts all got treated to Gunze C69 Offwhite. My favorite white. The exhaust was treated to Uschi's metallic powder - the "Steel" type.

The frustrating thing? A big ol' seam on either side of the intake. The way it assembles (full length upper and lower, fans trapped in middle) there's no way I can figure to do the "dump fill", and toward the mouth it's a nearly impossible angle to sand. Grr.

If I were an aftermarket company, a seamless intake would be the #1 need for this kit. Or a FOD cover...
