1/48 Airfix Bf-109F

Nice to see your 109F! Many would consider the F to be pinnacle of the Bf109 development. It was cleanest looking that's for sure. Your cockpit work is very nice and I'm looking forward to seeing the desert scheme.

Thank you John. Yes, the Friedrich was probably the best handling and looking of the 109 family. Afterwards handling was sacrificed for speed and armament. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll have those desert colors on.

Thank you Mike. I am really quite motivated to finish this one up for some reason. So here is today's progress report...

First off the trademark stamp, circa 1978. I still have the IPMS Update issue in my library with the review of this kit. Back then it was THE 109 kit in 1/48.



Then some more shots of my scratch work in the cockpit, and the molded on sidewall detail pre painting. Not too bad. And the canopy hood armor plate. I sanded that down to a more scale thickness compared to its original look











Then I airbrushed on a coat of Tamiya Dark Gray, XF-24, thinned with lacquer thinner to give it a little more "bite" on the wire and foil I added. XF-24 looks to be a close match to RLM-66... at least as Model Master has produced the color. After washes and dry brushing it won't really matter.

Hardly that fast my friend. I'm about to hit the cockpit detail painting speed bump. It all depends upon how much free time I have to work on this over the next week or so. But I really am enjoying such a simple kit. Perfect with the low parts count.

Yes it does! I have a few good color reference photos of the F cockpit and will be using them for my guide on colors. I'm gonna try to stay focused on this for a rapid effort. Not rushed, but not long and drawn out with sidetracks...

Pretty good kit details in the cockpit for a mold that is circa 1978! And your additions are sprucing up the office nicely.

Thanks John. My primary objective here is a quick simple build to get my modeling mojo flowing fully for the next month or two. After this one and my next project I'll have an enforced break for vacation. So then I should be itching to do some modeling afterwards..
I already have projects popping into my head... never enough free time...

Today I did some scribing on the fuselage, seeing how I will lose some of the raised panel lines there during seam clean up, I'm stepping ahead of that issue. Besides, the panel lines are mostly just circumferential around the fuselage- extremely simple scribing. And I began some wash work in the cockpit. No photos yet though.
