I’m finishing-up an Eduard 1/48 E4 now and I liked it so much I bought another, to do an Adolf Galland. This G2 is a build that I’m really excited about and the TROP variant is, in my mind, the perfect build to try Black Basing out on for the first time. I’m really excited about it.

I really think that the paint scheme for this particular aircraft is the perfect one for me to use as my first Black Basing attempt. The way I picture it in my mind, it ends up looking really, really cool. So I’m going for it, full-steam ahea!

Well that certainly is an interesting effect. Kind of “instant weathering.” I like it. There’s some tonal variation in there. One of the things about my latest Emil that I wasn’t completely happy about was how “flat” it looked in the cockpit. This Black Basing stuff seems like a good remedy for that.

Anyway that’s all for today. Tomorrow I’ll hit the sidewalls with Mr. Surfacer 1500, and maybe paint them this weekend if I have time amiss errands and the gym and running and putting on puppet shows for my bébés.

Are you using RLM 02 or RLM 66 for your cockpit? IIRC, they should be 66 after the early Emil’s.

The instructions called for RLM 66, and I read that Taniya’s “RLM Grey” (XF22) is a decent match for it, so I went with that.

Whoops. I got it backwards. I think XF 22 is recommended for RLM 02, not 66.

Or maybe not, I just read another post on a different forum where it was stated that tamiya was calling out XF22 for RLM66... others say XF24 “straight out of the bottle”.

This is a deep rabbit hole....

Tamiya German Gray ( I don’t know the XF number ) is a good substitute for RLM 66. Tamiya RLM Gray is their take on RLM 02. Needs to be a bit lighter and sandier to be a good match I think...
