Re: Dragon Bison II
I am late to this discussion. Better late than never. I too have experienced quality control issues with AK paints. That was the main reason I stopped using them. I wish I had known about adding thinner—sounds like a lot of thinner—to them. Great result in the end, bud!Floki wrote:They are the older Vallejo style bottles and I really didn't like them I think the paint was just old they are labeled as being airbrush ready but had to thin them a lot with Vallejo thinner. I had tried 91% isopropyl first and that turned everything into a gummy mess.Stikpusher wrote:Ahhhhh... thanks for that info. Are those the AK Real Color Line or their line that comes on the squeeze dropper bottles like Vallejo? Just curious as to which and your thoughts on the AK paint. I’ve tried the AK Real Color paints and am looking for ideas from more folks who have used those.

Thank you. They came as a box set no manufacturing date on the box but I know they are around 8 years old. I took the dropper top off of one of them and tried to stir it with a old brush handle, it was just full of lumps. I won't be using them again maybe the new real color line I'll give a try from reviews they are made like Tamiya paintI am late to this discussion. Better late than never. Re: Dragon Bison II
For the most part, I really like the AK Real Color paints. They have a super armor centric color line. And they are supposed to be compatible with several thinner types. I’ve used them with Tamiya thinner. The only gripe that I have so far with them so far is that with Tamiya thinner they produced a coarse gritty finish. But that is what I used on my Leopard 1A4 build. And they come in the nice small jars like Gunze and Tamiya Mini. Easy to stir...

Re: Dragon Bison II
And they're fully mixable with Tamiya and Mr. Hobby Aqueous alcohol based acrylics. I highly recommend Mr. Leveling Thinner as thinner and retarder. This combo causes a wonderful flat finish along with a super fast drying time.Stikpusher wrote:(...) And they are supposed to be compatible with several thinner types. I'm late to this as well. Excellent work! I also know how Dragon models are; I've completed about 70% pf their 1/72 scale offerings. You did awesome.
