Yes! Get yourself another cheap armor kit like this one and use it as your paint mule. Practice any newly learned paint and weathering techniques upon it. Then when you buy some overpriced überkit, you won’t worry about that portion of the project.

That being said, on desert builds, an airbrushed on coat of Humbrol “Dust” wash is a simple quick weathering technique.

What a great tank, Stuart! I dig it, man. I like that finish you got on there, and the color looks pretty darned spot-on to me based on afrika korps photos I’ve been compiling for my own research. And you did it with a brush... Gee wiz, man, that’s solid work. And I like what you did with that pigment too. Pigment is a really neat thing, I’ve come to enjoy working with it. Anyway, this is a solid tank and I’m glad you want to do more armor, I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with more tanks in the future.

Thanks Dude - I appreciate it. It's nice to know I'm on the right track (lol - no pun intended..Track? geddit??? I'm so funny I could cry... ). I tried an airbrush a few times this year... nah not for me. I'm not up there with BSY for brush painting but I'm getting better. Pigment is pretty good fun - like using pastels.

Yessir, pastel’s is what I use.

I suppose I could’ve bought modeling-specific pigments, but I worked quite a lot with pastels back in art school and found that I got on well with them. And they’re probably less expensive and easier to come by. For me the big advantage here is having 20+ colors at my disposal which I can mix together. That’s a big plus for me. It’s kind of like how I enjoy Tamiya paint so much. I like to mix my colors myself. Don’t know why. I just enjoy it.

That's a great point actually - I have a lot of artist supplies including pastels that I've never applied to my modelling

Could you post up a tutorial on how to use them perhaps?
