I like the look of the tri star figures I would add some legs to the one since it's such a open top.

I don’t think that he would fit properly if I added his lower legs. All of the full length figures did not sit in there quite right...

Tri-Star Rules! That looks great. Poses say “Stopped yet engaged in conversation.” Peanut gallery says to cut the seated figure just below the belt, then form the tops of two legs from putty. You may respond that it is too much work, but I think a quick and dirty Milliput session would yield two legs in under thirty minutes... quick sketch!

Yup, Tri-star looks better (and more unique)

Would want to learn painting figures one day, they do make the model to come alive!

But they are so :scream: to paint to look good !

Bruce, I agree that I could come up with something, but I know that if I go down that path, it will take more time than envisaged. That is always my luck... :headslap:

Kari, I have yet to come across a Tri Star crew figure set that I did not like. It is a real shame that the company folded. Yes, Hobby Boss now has the molds, and has re issued some of their kits, but I don’t think that they have their figure sculptors. And I like the fact that this pair is in greatcoats. People forget how cold the desert can get in wintertime, and DAK (or Brits or Italians) figures are seldom modeled in the cold weather clothing.

And while this kit comes with the markings for this particular vehicle... Yes, it has the DAK markings, but it is still in gray, which was only in the opening days of the Rommel’s campaigns in Libya

I am more drawn to this vehicle in the “mud” camo applied over the Dark Gray paint on early DAK vehicles before the Tropen paints arrived in Africa. Seeing the crew in the greatcoats here, just seals the deal.

Our desert was cold last night! 40 degrees! Was that a record? So... does this mean figures or no figures or legs or no legs for one figure, Carlos? I still think you could razor saw the figure below the belt then saw the greatcoat section vertically into two pieces then add... which is why my projects go on and on and on! Sorry. What is next?

40 is kinda warm for the temps they were showing on the news this morning... mostly in the mid to upper 30’s... but no records set that I know of.... we are just spoiled by our moderate Mediterranean climate most of the year.
As far as adding to the figure goes, with all the gun mechanism in there, I’m fairly certain that his lack of lower legs will not be noticeable. And yes, all those changes and additions do equal time... :clockwatch:

Don’t ask how I know... :headslap:

Good luck, Carlos! You could always perform a little surgery on this fella. The greatcoat could be added the way tarps are made by draping thin rolled pieces of putty.

Peanut Gallery out!

Yes I could... but I have plenty more DAK subjects in my stash and not enough crew figures for them.... so the Miniart figures will be kept “as is” for those. I’m trying to make this project as minimal for surgery changes as possible. Use what I can from spares or scraps, leave off this here, and add that there. Frankensteining of figures is more than I want to do. I want simple drop in with what I have. Today is day 4 of 12, and I’m back to a new work week today. I’ll have an hour or two at most this afternoon, then no time again until Monday, losing a complete day.
I’ll take some more shots of the turret from overhead once I get some paint on and it shows how much will be concealed by the gun mount

No worries, my friend. I know the end result will be fantastic due to your skills. I wanted to add that the new interior work does make a very great difference, and is a showcase for you abilities when designing and developing details. Also, your work schedule is challenging, but the project reflects a very clear approach. It is always a sincere pleasure to follow and learn from your ideas.
