Today’s mid afternoon update.

First up, I finished the cradle and mount. The parts are for the most part nicely detailed, but mold seam lines are prominent and require lots of clean up. Thankfully, the plastic is on the softer side. Also some of the attachment points and directions for certain small parts are ambiguous. Test fit, check reference photos, test fit, check reference again, and test fit again, just to be sure, before applying glue.

anyways here is the completed gun on the cradle and mount





and a close up of some of the details on the mount...



Then, while the glue was drying there, I built up one of the Bronco crew figures and posed him with an Airfix 32nd scale figure... as you can see, they are fairly close in stature and should work for this....



Next to a 1:35 scale ruler (left side) both stand at around 1.8M tall...



Then I started work on the carriage. There are stil a lot of detail parts to add there before final assembly...



Then a test fit all together along with the Bronco figure



More tomorrow... This is progressing faster than I expected...

Yes, they had a few of those for years at Military Hobbies in Orange, and I never grabbed one when I should have. When I finally had the cash and decided to do so, they were gone.

This is one of the reasons I’m so happy here at this forum. You guys always build interesting stuff and it gets me thinking about other interesting stuff too. Also, those figures are co and I can’t wait to see what you do with them.

Thanks Kenny. The traversing hand wheel (vertical orientation and solid) is a two part affair, with little perforation holes that are barely visible... I also drilled out both ends of the sight.

And this is my general idea of final appearance for this project once the figures are done...

Well after looking at the photo, I’d like to add the street sign and the phone pole in the foreground...

Yeah bro, that is going to be a really, really interesting piece once completed.

I was thinking about this... one thing I learned with my Walker is that just because something doesn’t look like it has a lot of surface area, doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be simple. Take the legs. They’re just tall, skinny shape. But there’s so many edges to them and so many surface details. This gun is like that. So many fine details, so many different surfaces to paint. Seem to me like a good modeler like you could have a ball painting something like this and weathering it. Also for drilling out the sights, man, nice!

Thanks Kenny. You are so right about painting. This one is very busy with all sorts of nooks and crannies. I’m gonna do a black base on this one and then custom mix up some of the British shade of OD, which is different than the US shade, and airbrush that on in a very thin coat. We had a good demonstration on that at AMPS last weekend and I am looking forward to trying it out here.
