I was thinking about going to Chicago to see the U-505 but the wife brought up the point of not wanting to be shot by some gang banger with only a handful of IQ points.

Yeah I know that some areas of Chicago are pretty bad. But, IIRC, where the museums are located is in the “safe” part of town near the lakeshore, and not in the “hood”. Just like any other major city with it’s good parts and bad parts. Some areas are more affluent, well serviced, and well policed, than other areas.

When I was a truck driver I drove through Chicago several times. I wasn't sure from one visit to another if the roads would support me or if the bridges, which were full of rust, would hold. Other than that, I agree, there are some areas that are protected and "safe", if any place is truly safe.
I sanded the plates last night and besides knocking off a couple during the process, which were replaced right afterward, I think it turned out really well. I will be spraying a black base on the hull and deck tonight. Then comes the hull camo, spray the deck fittings grey, mount the deck and install the wood veneer. Of course, not all in one night.
Pictures will defiantly be coming when that is complete.

Here is a quick pic of the NC in her black hull camo. Next come the grays. Really not much to see.

Just subscribed, better late than never. I am getting myself ready for potential downsizing and removing many kits to storage but the wooden ship model purchased for the group build remains in easy reach, in the hopes the deal will be struck where building begins.
S’wonderful to see a new project from you. I will follow closely!

Just keep doin’ what you do! All the best! I was watching a model train diorama where the fella building the waves was working with layers of glue soaked toilet paper tissues. Seems like there are ideas a-plenty from diorama builders for waves and ripples... always a pleasure to see your work!
