Ok.....NOW I can see it. That engine looks great sprayed Lyle. A verrrry light wash of brown will help bring those details out some on the engine block and cylinder heads taking care to not getting any of it on that intake manifold. Coming together nicely.

Since this kit comes with cast iron exhaust manifolds I'll give you some ideas on my approach to them.

First, spray them flat black. After that's dried airbrush a LIGHT coat of MM Steel over the black. Too much steel and it won't look right. Just enough to cover the black lightly. You'll see what I mean when you get the desired coat on. It'll start to take on a brand new cast iron look. But we're not done there. Lastly, grind up some black pastel on a piece of course sandpaper and dry brush a light coat onto the manifolds after the Steel coat has dried. What you'll end up with is something that looks like a gently used cast iron manifold.

This is the engine out of my General Lee that I used this technique with the exhaust manifolds on. See what I'm talking about here?

Go back one post Lyle. I edited it out for you. This engine also has the light wash I was talking about. If you look you can see the result on the base block and heads.

Don't worry about the fine details yet. Just stick to the basics here and you'll be alright. It's easy to want to get carried away so just take 'er slow and worry about detailing later. A good feature about this engine of yours is the fact that it's got a bracket for the alternator instead of the mysterious floating alternator. Really adds a nice touch to the engine. Aluminum coat on the alternator with a dark wash for those cooling fin recesses in it will bring that thing out to a realistic finish.

The big piece of advice that I've got for you on this part of the model is to take your time with it and build it like it's own model. Starting with yourself and then branching out to all you show this build to.....everybody....and I mean EVERYBODY wants to see under the hood. Just take your time and give 'em a good show.

Time I gots! Speedway decals are a week or more out. So is the body color and the clear gloss for the chrome.

in looking at the grill...that is a LOT of chrome. Painted the black between the bars this morning.

...and taking the chrome plating off the console in a bleach bath.

this chrome plating is stubborn. I hate waiting.

Exhaust re-done. Sort of. I already had a thin coat of flat aluminum on them, so i washed them in black and dry brushed some pastel black chalk. Hope they look okay, Joe.
