Watching. I say crack the cellophane on the Aurora kit and watch collectors scream in agony! Kits were meant to be built! I really should dust off my Revellogram 1/48 kit and work on it.

That could make an interesting Group Build theme....old collector kits.

I must admit that I have not yet had too big trouble with my Airfix P-51D kit.

Could it be that Stuart got a bad batch of sprues or things just went south, as we know, can happen even with Tamiyas and Hasegawas!

Of course, I have not mated the fuselage halves yet, so might still be I will face some fitting problems. There is pretty much stuff one need to squeeze inside the fuselage, in my opinion uneccessary details that will not even be visible at all.

Comparing to Eduard, the Airfix kit lacks most fo crispyness in details that Eduard has.

I am very curious Bruce to see your opinion of the kit!
(we still have the Revell 1/32 in our stash waiting for better days...)

Personally Kari, your work always inspires. Truly. I can think of no greater compliment fitting you and everyone here who is part of SPAM (sincerely) then INTEGRITY.

Your work is built to the dictum that there is but one way to build a project: the right way.

And when I include EVERYONE (in all caps which is a language faux pas of the modern age I hate) I mean everyone who has passed through SPAM as well (Doog, Law Dog, many others). For whatever reasons, they came and went away. But they left behind precious jewels of knowledge which make us better modelers.

Thank you for what you wrote. One of the reasons I took the kit out was to see for my own what was happening to Stuart. I wanted to be in sympathy for a fellow builder, and my sincerest wish is to take my position amongst you as “shoulder to shoulder” because we learn together. Officially or unofficially. When you start your first kit, whenever that is, I will be there to follow along with you.

I read your beautifully-written into/mission statement first thing this morning and enjoyed the hell out of it! Shoot, man, how could I not? With a title like that!

There’s a lot of Stang love going on here and in other segments of the modeling community, and I for one at very happy to see you throwing your own hat into the ring. Especially with such a cool Stang subject!

I’ll be watching intently!

You and Kari will hopefully be pleased to know that I've pulled mine off the SOD after it's short stay. I'm really not sue that the hell is going on with mine but I've managed to sort out most of the issues. What I will say though is check the fit as you progress and be wary around any of the tail parts - even the rudder and elevators on mine were a bad fit!

It'll be really fun to see what you do with yours!

The biggest surprise you would get if you open that Aurora box is that instead of the P-51D on the box art what you will find is a P-51H inside.

Indeed! You are quite right, John. I picked up a lovely set of decals pre-pandemic!



Honestly, though, I don’t think I will even use these, because the Aurora model has raised outlines to paint the insignias on directly. I was just going to use custom masks and be extremely fussy. This could be the subject:
