That oil wash looks good Kari, how did you go about doing it?

Well I suppose that the single thread for a year will work… but over a multi year period it might get pretty long!

Absolutely, but I'm optimist! I hope there will be more threads eventually, but starting carefully and in a modest way !

My method (highly probably tens of other methods)

First I mix a pretty "waterish" oilpaint + thinner mixture. Next step is to let the capillary effect take care of spreading the mixture along all edges, raised details etc etc. I let it dry for a few minutes (up to 10) and then clean up a here and there the excess with a cotton swab. In this case I used just black, but could as well used other suitable colors. If the mix is very thin of colour, then I would repeat it or let part of the thinner to evaporate and do the process once more.

I must say, personally I like the oilwashing part a lot. With some patience, the result can be really good!

I am going to paraphrase some advice from a very important teacher: “every artistic investigation will lead to personal insights; it may not lead to a finished project.” As someone who has left a lot of unfinished models on these pages, I give you these words as a reminder that completion is not necessary quantifiable.

It's an interesting technique isn't it - that bay does look good. I really must have a go with oils before long!

Yes, it is a straight forward and pretty easy, even easier than dry brushing, where a little bit too much paint on the brush can destroy everything in one sweep... With oil washing, you can be pretty generous

After a few days on a work trip in Germany, time to continue with the cockpit and side panels.



Masking ongoing, quite relaxing as a matter of fact, and trillions times nicer than masking a canopy for example..
