Well that will be something to see -- looking forward to it.

I really don't think I'll know what I am going to build for this until Feb 1st. My issue is I want to build a B-24J a B-25J an F4F a TBD an SBC a P-39D a couple P-47s and P-51s and an F-14. ...and that's the short list.
Maybe the answer is to consult by decal binder ...

Well, if you build ‘em like when were kids, you could build all of those in six months…

I remember getting those big Monogram bombers as Christmas gifts each year as a kid. By the end of Christmas Day they would be built, and by the next day brush painted and decals on. Of course there was no seam filling, mold seam line removal, airbrushing, gloss coats, dull coats, etc. etc… or any of those other fancy grown up advanced modeling techniques Just tube model glue, Pactra, Testors and later Polly S paints, and a strong drive to build. I even got the interiors painted with what the directions showed to do!

Oh yeah.... I remember getting those big bomber kits for Christmas as a kid - from the 1/72 scale B-52 Stratofortress, B-36 Peacemaker, and the 1/48 scale B-17 Flying Fortress. Other years big ticket model kits were The General locomotive with coal car and the Budweiser 8-Hitch Clydesdale beer wagon kits.

The B-52 was never painted. The others were. Fond memories indeed.


I do remember my sister getting this big Corvette model kit one Christmas.... 1:8 scale Chevy Corvette. Boy, it was massive!

I almost forgot one other kit I got one year for Christmas.... the big PT-109 that John F. Kennedy commandeered. I’m not sure what scale it was but it included a motor and battery pack for the propellers. Took me forever to build that beast. My guess it may have been 1/64 scale?

My memory is very unreliable in this regard. I am pretty sure at some point I got the F4F, Fw190, A6m and 109E for Christmas... Not sure how I aquired my B-24D, it may very well have been for Christmas, but I am pretty sure I bought my two B-17G's from a Torys R Us / Kids R Us in Belden Village . I'll always remember that isle in the store, they would have all the Monogram kits x10 or x15 of each type... I was like

I remember riding my bike over to Toys R US and getting the P-61 Black Widow and driving it home on the paper rack

Remove the word Monogram and substitute it with either Airfix or Matchbox and those are pretty much my Christmas's too.
