Re: 1/48 scale Spitfire Mk.Vb ‘Red Star’

Since I received a Tamiya 1/48 scale Spitfire Mk.Vb for Christmas, I decided to make this thread a Spitfire Mk.Vb Dual Build.

The kits...

As you know, I somehow lost the wingtips to the Red Star Spitfire some time back. I swiped the wingtips from the Tamiya kit and installed them on the Red Star Spitfire.

Didn't realize when I test fitted them, they were a smidgen too large. Doh.... the Red Star is a Hasegawa kit. No biggie... nothing but a bit of doctoring to make it fit - a bit of sanding and a bit of putty did the trick. Here's the end result...

The Tamiya kit, thankfully included a clipped wing version. So this one is gonna be the clipped wing version.

You are a wildman. Looking forward to this.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Nice! Double build side-by-side Tamiya vs Hasegawa

What a great idea, Tom! This is going to be cool to watch!! It’s such a solid idea to put their kits against each other—they have both been competitors in the model building industry for a long time. A quick question—Where were these kits produced? Japan or the Philippines?

I was perplexed why the undersides were not assigned as Sky but RAF Medium Sea Grey 2. Perhaps they changed it for the Mk.Vb?

Most likely the Russians did that, Tom. Looks like a fun project.
