The paint and wash work on those side panels is terrific!

There actually hasn’t been a wash alplied yet! The Black Basing can give the appearance of a wash though, and that’s one reason I like it so much for cockpits. Think of it like “built-in shadows and dirt” :-D

Thank you!

But alas- I windexed the shit out of them and started again. Here’s why-

1. The RLM Gray was too khaki to my eye

2. My highlights were too stark.

So I started again. It all comes back to the Black base. When that RLM Gray is super thin, and you spray conservatively, you get a lovely, weathered, sandy gray. Go a bit too hard and BOOM!, you get a frat boy’s khaki Brook’s Brothers trousers.

This is the second attempt, just the base coat, no highlights yet:

Das ist wünderbar. Das ist just right.

I’m a horrible perfectionist. My Therapist has a field-day with this stuff.

Question- should the cockpit be RLM 66 or RLM 02?

Both!

The floor of the cockpit is the darker, more gray RLM 02.

... I thought that was odd, too. So I contacted Göring via my Ouija Board and he confirmed it.

Remember perfection is a target that cannot be hit... believe me I have the perfectionist gene as well.

No model work this morning. Instead I cooked brunch for my wife and my bébés: my Lafayette-Famous “Spicy Crawtater Frittata (Now With Took’s Pork & Alligator Sausage Goodness)”! Will resume work on the Stuka cockpit later after the bébés have gone to bed. They all loved the food, so I’m a happy guy, relaxing with a Bloody Mary and chatting with my lovely wife.
