The most important part to make your Do 17 a convincing beauty will be the coloring. I would suggest to start with dull black or very dark gray. For thin layers of camouflage try Gunze RLM 65, 70, 71.

Marius, Thank you so much for visiting. I am cautiously optimistic that the wire loops will work as engine braces! Thank you for your painting sequence idea as well as for the manufacturer choice. I have the RLM 65 from Gunze already which was used for something else. I remember it being a beautiful rendition. I will order the other colors. Oh, and I have Gunze for the red identification mark on the tip of each propeller's "nose." I matched that as best I could to RLM 23. I may have gone a little too strong with the choice of red (I think it is a Gundam color, truthfully) but I like it very much.

I think you start to nail the engine braces, wire (or as I would say "iron threads" ) are much more to scale!
What is the diameter of that, could even be slightly thinner, no?
But nevertheless, looking very sharp now!

Bruce, I’ll take a look at “The Keep” intro and get back to you. I do like some Michael Mann films, “Heat” and “Last of the Mohicans” being among my favorite movies. Listening to those 80’s synthesizer soundtracks reminds me of how well “Stranger Things” hit the mark in that area. Especially after listening to “The Thing”. I need to find some Vangellis now...

Kenny, I listened to the Risky Business score as I was working yesterday on my project. Tangerine Dream just lets you mind flow as you work.

BSY, you build so many projects, I am not remembering you new Airfix Do-17. Now I need to go look for it....

The braces look good! That should block the view to those simplified engine faces... look like owl faces peeking out!

John, thank you, I sincerely appreciate your thoughts! Indeed the cylinder heads look like tiny owls. Frog design did get the number of heads right. I agree; the bracing screens out the simplified Bramo Fafnir engine details.

I also have an issue with the molding for one cowling. The alignment is off. This is severe enough that I had to choose what features would stay together. Then I will grind down the step between the two halves. My choice was the lower join and not the visible upper one.

Stuart—Please definitely do build the Do 17! Perhaps you will be able to find the 2014-15 Airfix version I tried to find or one of the ICM kits. There is also a Revell of Gernany version I briefly considered. All the newish kits look great, the ICM was released in 1/72 and 1/48. ICM released multiple versions as well, so there is a lot of potential here which is untapped, in my opinion. Where are the projects, I wonder?

To be honest Bruce, I would build the Airfix one if I could FIND one at a reasonable price, as I really like the subject - but they seem to be rare as hell at the moment!

Stuart, That is exactly how I feel. I thought I would be able to pick up the Airfix version for a song, but I would have to pay premium for the kit and shipping, which negated a lot of the joy—replacing joy with pressure—and that was not what I wanted, either. I really do not think this Frog is a dog, either, lol. There is potential here. Plus figuring out camo at this scale is a hobby benchmark I want to achieve. Probably the best way to achieve that will be taking the pressure off everything except the air brush.
