Thanks Kenny, I hope to get to them this weekend but I got a mountain of stuff to do around the house. I swear the grass has grown 6inches over night but the temps are still im the 40s. So if I get the honey do list done this Saturday I'll be back to painting.

No this isn't a joke I have a update.... Small update but it's progress.
So these masks a bit of a choir going to try montex masks next they don't seem to be as hard to get out of shape like these.

I agree the Montex mask sets are very user friendly. This is coming along nicely! Watching for more!

I feel you on the shape of the masks, my man, I had issues with that myself with the masks I made myself. It can happen. But hey- you’re looking real good so far and I’m really liking what you’re doing with the paint job here. This is coming along very well, and I was glad to see this update! Keep it up!

Put down the AK RC RLM 75 Masked it off with bluetack, Tamiya tape and cheap frog tape

Then sprayed AK RC RLM 74
Pulled all the masking and I'm pertty happy with my first time using masks for the markings. Next time I'm going to give Montex a try.
Then added some chipping got just a bit more than I wanted.


Got a clear coat put on when I got home I was out of Mr. Super Clear Gloss so used what I normally would use for my armor builds and thats Krylon Clear Acrylic Gloss. I use the MSC for aircraft since I use acrylic for weathering them and this Krylon for armor since I use enamels to weather them. I use MSC Flat on both as a final coat.

Frog tape is the best. Can't find yellow frog tape anywhere. The green frog tape I find at most places. I wonder if they did away with the yellow Frog tape. It's very similar to Tamiya yellow tape.

Happy Good Friday! Lovely camo. There are a lot of stages to achieving the camo and you did it! I found a photo of Pips Priller and the top painted section of his canopy has hard weathering that matches your chipping perfectly, if you want to add that to what you are doing that will pull things together visually as well as make sense and is accurate for a battle hardened A-8, too!



Apologies for the low resolution photo, but I think adding the canopy chipping with Prismacolor pencils or your preferred method would work really well.

Regarding the chipped edge of the wing above the weapons, I see that as an area you may want to test out a “reduction,” first masking everything surrounding it off and do a soft edge friskette from an old envelope to protect the darker camo then add a few light coats until the chips blend out. I stress “may want” because I know that you completed the camo stage already but the area that has the heaviest chipping is on the lighter color closest to the fuselage. Again I would defer to Ken who thought the camo looked just right and chalk this up to Friday ramblings by me. I also wonder what would happen if you mixed a light grey wash with watercolors or oils and cut the silver sheen down a bit? I went looking for examples of the most battleworn A-8s I could find, the Eastern Front aircraft that were hammered by the elements as well as heavy usage, and could find no real heavily chipped armament areas.

Maybe others have better ideas or would be able to refute what I wrote... it’s just a feeling that comes from a first impression.
