So is this kit worth getting?

In my opinion not at all, if you can get the Eduards new P-51D instead. But if the option is only the Airfix kit versus nothing, and you want to build a P-51D then Airfix is a valid option. It’s not bad, the Eduard is just so much better.
Pricewise the Eduard is not that much more expensive, especially as you get masks & PE parts with it. And the new type of decals.
Early next year Eduard will come with the ”Weekend” series and then Eduard will even be cheaper than Airfix!

Really glad to see this one kicked back into play Stuart.
I've never had a FB account....and I really don't want one. I've got so many other things to do with my time.

So, having had some breathing space. Yes I'd agree with Kari, I don't think it's the best option out there and if I was going to build another P-51D I'd buy an Eduard or Tamiya. However, taken on it's own merits it's not a bad kit and is perfectly buildable - it's just not the wonder kit it was made out to be.KSaarni wrote:In my opinion not at all, if you can get the Eduards new P-51D instead. I've got mixed feelings about FB, it has it's uses and it's nice to keep up with a few friends (I only have about 20) but I wouldn't miss it if it disappeared.mustang1989 wrote:

Thanks Joe! Progress is being made, I think I'm pretty much at the painting stage - although I'm going to build up the undercarriage and drop tanks first.mustang1989 wrote:Really glad to see this one kicked back into play Stuart.![]()

That windscreen engineering is a clever way to move the seams, but it does present new challenges for painting the interior...

Thank Chaps!
Carlos - to be fair to Airfix they did this part pretty well. The IP attached to the bulkhead whilst the coaming and gunsight fit to the inside of the windscreen - it looks pretty good when it's all together - in fact I'd say the cockpit was the best part of this kit. However, as with everything else, the fit of the hood is terrible and I had to run a bead of PPP around the edges
I had some issues with Postimages earlier, here another shot of the kit and the decals I've bought.

Cheers!

Looking very good now! Are you going to be using the decals for the nose checkerboard? I could see that being a tricky fit.

Thanks John.
I suspect I might try for the decals first, as my paintings not that accurate. We'll see how it goes.
